[Snowstorm]

This footage from 1984 shows JoAnn Elam’s neighborhood after a snowstorm, most likely in Chicago. Elam films the snowy alleys and houses first from outside and then from inside her house through the windows. The camera is eventually back outside on the street, where we see Elam toss keys to a bearded man (possibly her friend Chuck Kleinhans) on her doorsteps. The discarded Christmas trees in the side alleys suggest that this footage might have been taken some time after the holidays. At the end, Elam embarks on a car ride through the city, filming the cityscape passing before her eyes. As many elements from this collection evidence, car rides like this one often became opportunities for Elam to capture the environment and people around her.
