Abstract:
Maine II picks up where Maine I left off. Mabel & Ruth have bought adjoining lots on the water; Ruth has built a cabin. Two local young women, Louise Z. Young and Miriam Colwell, have become friends with Ruth, Chennie, and Mabel. Chennie & Mimi became romantically involved; lived together in NYC for a time & then in 1941 returned to live full time in Maine. They are a gregarious couple and gradually their circle enlarged to include local friends and friends from away, including the filmmaker Jean Oser, painter Marden Hartley, photographer Paul Strand, painter Jane Doggett, and many others. Mabel Griffin died in 1942.
