Can Description:
Reel 4 To Anna Harris, Manchester, Vermont. Dr. Campbell Day. Aug. Date code 1949.
Viewing Notes:
Reel 4. b&w, dirty and unstable marching band footage. The Manchester Band. [Celebration of Dr. Campbell Day in Manchester, Vermont, August 1949, 50th year of Claude M. Campbell's practice of medicine.] People watching at edge of street under elm trees.Cars pass (Pontiac). Overexposed and washed out street view, no detail in shot. Probably people and trees, gas station sign, overhead wires, but really hard to make out. People walking along by car and houses, picket fence in background. Informal parade. Then open car follows with two couples waving. More cars. Audience in front of house with shutters, perhaps there is a speaker, but not visible. Better exposure, people at event by house with shutters. [Manchester Historical Society identifies location as Main Street.] Image is clean. Women wear hats, garden party with folding chairs. Then image instability, fast pan of camera. African American couple acknowledges camera (other guests are largely Caucasian). Three more women in this group of various ages. Then shots of crowd from back.
