Loraine Sumner combined sports and motherhood as closely and frequently as she could manage. Often she took summer jobs as a camp counselor or director, because those positions enabled mother and daughter to spend summers together. Debbie especially enjoyed Tower Day Camp, which offered horseback riding, but Sumner worked in a variety of summer camps,
