Abstract:
By 1939 Mimi had joined Chennie in New York City where they lived together on E. 22 St. Mimi briefly experimented with photography, using their bathroom as a darkroom. On one occasion Chennie invited her old friend Berenice Abbott to stop by & critique Mimi's work, a memory Mimi recalled with chagrin. Other friends who visited were Tibby & Ken McCormick. But although Ruth often filmed Chennie & Mimi in Maine, and photos of those times can be found in Miriam Colwell's collection at the University of Maine, Orono, no moving image footage of them in NYC has surfaced. Rather, Robert Moses' creations & upstate friends & family captured Ruth's attention when she was in New York. In this reel, she focuses on the 1939 World's Fair & the new Jones Beach.
