Misc

This title by JoAnn Elam includes a close-up of a dog food label (out of focus), what appears to be typed title cards for Elam’s film Lie Back and Enjoy It (1982), and shots of paper documents like The Last Whole Earth Catalog, a handwritten note that reads “The joys of love are not a moment long. The pain of love will last your whole life long” and is followed by Elam’s divorce papers with filmmaker Bill Brand, and a postcard of the Mona Lisa, and shots of a man and a woman. Elam might have wanted to use some of this footage for Lie Back and Enjoy It and perhaps some other project devoted to her divorce. The Last Whole Earth Catalog was issued in 1971 by The Whole Earth Catalog, an American counterculture magazine and product catalog published by Stewart Brand from 1968 through 1972, and it is also the subject of several other elements in the Elam collection, mainly Last Whole Earth Catalog (Original). The Whole Earth Catalog ‘s ecological philosophy based on self-sufficiency echoes Elam’s own preoccupation with nature and farming work apparent in much of her film work.
