Ice Lakes – Garden 1 ’84” begins with footage of ice clinging to docks along Lake Michigan on the north side of Chicago, the cityscape visible in the background. An unidentified man walks along the shore. Approximately halfway through its runtime, the film switches to show JoAnn Elam planting seeds in her garden in the backyard of her Logan Square residence in Chicago. The relationship of the film to ” 84 Garden 2 ” (F.2011-01-0103) and ” 84 Garden 3 ” (F.2011-01-0100) remains unclear, though the numbering may indicate a larger organization in mind. All three films may also be related to ” Garden 84 ” (F.2011-01-0153), a longer, edited work.
