Abstract:
Title: "A memento of India with best wishes from Devada Gandhi and family," "Republic Day Celebrations in New Delhi January 26, 1953." [Dupey print] Parade: A man (Rajendra Prasad) gets out of a carriage and goes to a dais to watch the parade, parade goes by the dais: tanks, military, planes flying in formation, floats from different regions of India. "At Rashtrapati Bhavan." People outside the president's house walking through the garden. President Prasad speaking with a man in military uniform. Guests. "Ambassador Chester Bowles", Chet standing next to other ambassadors. "An Informal Tea Party." Chet sitting on a coach talking with a man, Dorothy sitting on a coach talking with a woman. Dark footage of a child serving tea and snacks. Chet and Dorothy looking at a long scroll, speaking with the family. "Rajaji with the family." A man in white robes (Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, or Rajaji) gets off an airplane, greets people on the tarmac. Rajaji sitting on a couch inside speaking with another man, the scroll is unraveled, tea is served and Rajaji sits with the family. "Rajendra Prasad, Nehru, and Radhakrishnan join in prayers at Rajghat January 30, 1953." People sitting cross legged around a mandala, shots of the crowd, crowd stands and walks to the Rajghat, children praying at the edge of Rajghat, people walk around the memorial, a monk walks around the memorial chanting.
